An Expected Person: homeless to physicist

A man to the left of me is standing at the bus stop. All his belongings are carried with him wherever he goes. He stands hunch-backed every moment he stands at all, and is well known as the "homeless man" throughout ASU West. One day, I asked this man if he studied here, and he looked around and asked, "Who? Me?" stunned that someone was speaking to him. I nodded. "Yes," he said. This man is pursuing a Masters Degree in Physics. He spoke to me about the current financial situation of America. He politely nodded on his way up the bus as we conversed about the economic state of the world. He is more educated than most, and when I asked about pursuing his education and why physics, he shrugged and said simply that it interested him.

To see someone with nearly nothing still get an education; to see a person choose something he’s interested in. That made my day.
